Ed Delahanty
Ed Delahanty was a professional baseball player from Ohio. He made his Major League debut on May 22 1888 at the age of 18. He played left field for the Philadelphia Quakers, now the Phillies. He would play for the next 17 years until his age of 35. He would have a career batting average of .346 with 101 HR's and almost 1500 RBIs. His career batting average is 5th all time. His life was cut short at the age of 35. He was taking a train through New York when he became outraged and very drunk. He pulled out a knife and was threatening passangers, who also over heard him talking about suicide. The conducter kicked him off the train around Niagara. Walking accross a bridge around Niagara Falls, Delahanty fell in and went over the falls killing him. It is uncertain if he jumped or fell. His body was brought back to his hometown of Cleveland, Oh where he was buried in Calvary Cemetery. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945.
