Make bread, not war ... ( description info below )
I particularly enjoyed Barbara Luel's interpretation and tribute to Banksy and his famous " Wrong War " work. which began my idea for creating this mosaic....
Although not seen so well here, ( due to square cropping of mosaic tiles ) we can link to the photopage, where the flowers and words are seen perfectly..... Barbara Luel's
As well as the art, realism and beauty of the different photos, there is also represented here the devastated city of Aleppo, Syria... A USAID photo of a bread oven there ... It looks so satisfying, yet so many hundreds of people needed bread for survival which they could not get.....
There is also here, a now famous village / town called Bil'in and larger area of the Palestinian West Bank border area ...and one of the remaining family members of Bassem Abu Rahma killed by a tear gas cannister during a peaceful march.. His young son lights the fire ready for preparing bread and a meal.
Each Friday, at Bil'in and other villages, there is a peaceful Non-Violence Resistance march along the land and it is walked well inside the dividing wall, on the Palestinian side, ( of course the other side was/is Palestine too ) and yet tear gas, 'rubber' bullets, arrests and armoured vehicles and well armed IOF Israeli soldiers are here too. ( Israeli Occupation Force ) . There is never any peace... Many of these IOF personnel have never even spoken to a Palestinian in their lives ...
Without the presence of International visitors and activists, casualties would be far higher... although visitors are not safe either....
The round bread which we see baking is cooked on hot stones ( not on coals as we might first think ).... The heat from the stones being sufficient to cook but not ( hopefully ) burn the bread......A simple life which has been so disrupted over the years....This particular family is living at Beit Ommar just south of Bethlehem...and north of Hebron.... Palestine.
The Lavash ( Ukraine but other names in different places ) is a soft, thin flatbread popular in several countries of the northern parts of the Middle-East and the southern parts of the Caucasus.
The robust colour of figs and clay pots adds a real richness to the photo....
I enjoy the silvery look to winter leaves created by Zsaj who has a unique way of processing most things.
I hope you enjoy the Mosaic .....
