Rising Tide
Nice timing for this theme... on Friday my vehicle, a 2002 Ford Explorer, was in the garage, getting an oil change and another new set of tires, well deserved after 277,000 miles!
It has been through thick and thin with me over the past ten years, and is used to ending up in "unusual" situations... but it got worried... very worried, last weekend...
While my friend was staying with me for a few days while on vacation, we stopped here, at the edge of the tidal salt marsh on Plum Island to take some photos. I am usually much more observant and aware of the tide chart, but I was distracted by our mission at hand. While we were at the other end of the parking area and not paying attention to my truck... I didn't realize it, but the tide was coming in! And this day, it was an unusually high tide which came up through the marsh and into the parking area. When we started to walk back, my friend said, "Hey, I didn't notice all that water when we first got here, did you?" The driver's side tires were sitting in about six inches of water... oops!
I climbed in the passengers side and slowly backed out onto dry land so my friend could get in without getting soaked. We had a good laugh and now my friend will have a funny story to take home with her! My Dad always told me to never turn my back on the ocean...
