This is a list of alien immigrants taken from the French ship, L'Aquitaine on the 17th of February, 1903. It is difficult to read but the lucky 13th entry is for Hagop Nalbandian, my grandfather and marks the arrival of the Nalbandian family to the United States. My grandfather's journey began in Kharpet in Eastern Turkey, his hometown. From there he went to Istanbul and boarded a ship bound for Marseille. The L'Aquitaine sailed from Le Havre, which is in the north of France, so perhaps the original story about Marseille was inaccurate. The L'Aquitaine sailed to New York and Ellis Island. His journey ended in Worcester, Massachusetts where he settled, married, raised a family and lived the rest of his life.
