Last summer it was announced that Metra would extend service to Rockford via this line, the Union Pacific Belvidere Subdivision, from just west of Elgin where a new connection will be built to the Metra Milwaukee West (CPKC) line.
The American Association of Private Railcar Owners or AAPRCO hosted its convention in Chicago a year ago over Labor Day weekend and through the following Tuesday ran rare mileage excursions.
This train went to Belvidere and was turned on the wye. Since this train traveled out to Belvidere not only was Metra service announced on the UP Belvidere Subdivision but the Stellantis (Chrysler) plant that anchored the freight business closed in Feburary of this year.
