Happy New Year!
Sincere good wishes for the New Year to all my many friends, I hope it brings you peace, happiness & prosperity, and may the light always be with you!
I have not been so active on Flickr recently, but my little "holiday" has made me realise that I have spent sufficient time playing with different cameras, films, & developers, and it is better for me to spend more time taking photographs! Accordingly, I have decided to use only one camera, one film, & one developer, for 2013.
The choices are agonising,of course, whatever I decide will mean sacrificing many old friends & bad habits, at least for a while! I don't really take that many photos in a year, so I might as well use the biggest practical sized negatives, 6X9. I like to travel fairly light, so a folder seems the way to go, and of the many 6x9 folders I have used, or own, my all time favourite is the Kodak Tourist 620, and since I have converted mine to use 120 straight out of the box, it fits the bill nicely.
That was easy, films & developer less so. I start the year with a lot of Shanghai GP3, quite a few rolls of Foma, in various speeds, and a few assorted Rollei films also, so I'll use them up first, but what to choose as a "standard" for the future is difficult. I am tempted to try Foma 200 again, it was my favourite film before the catastrophic re-launch, but I had some bad results with it after, but it seems they might have got it right now, otherwise, I may return to Tri-X 400, a film I used almost exclusively for nearly thirty years, so it's like an old friend, - tolerant, forgiving, and always predictable!
As for developers, I like Caffenol a lot, I like divided D23 the same, and Thornton's Two Bath, but I am again tempted to return to old friends, either Diafine, or D76H, (which is D76 without the hydroquinone, which is not healthy for the good guys who live in the septic tank!) In truth, the jury is still out on this one, and I'd be interested to hear other peoples ideas!
Oh, the picture, I almost forgot, - taken on 620 day 2012, the little station at Parsac-Gouzon, on the cross country line between Gueret & Montluçon, in Central France, not surprisingly, with the Tourist!
