Luz Forero Cuba

Music is everywhere in Havana. We unexpectedly came upon this group of drummers and dancers in the middle of the afternoon. I liked the backdrop of colorful graffiti art because it provides a visual representation of the vibrant sounds and movement playing out in front of it. Cubans have a strong sense of self and are firmly rooted in their rich history while fully living in the moment. The taxi driver who drove us to the city from the airport when we first arrived pointed out a tall palm tree on the Paseo de Marti and said, “We Cubans like to say we are like a palm tree – we have our roots in our history, we are strong and supple like the trunk, but up on top, we are dancing and moving and having a great time.”
