Sparrowhawk and fledgling Robin kill
Sometimes nature can be very cruel...and this is an example. This Sparrowhawk snatched a recently fledged Robin from my feeding table today. I had spotted the arrival of the fledgling early yesterday evening. I was very excited as I was sure it was one of Rosey's and she's been such a busy mum. I managed to get some film of it, but it was dusk and not good light.
When I saw it arrive again today I went to get my camera and returned to find it in the clutches of the Sparrowhawk. I knew there was nothing I could do...so I let nature take its course. It flew off shortly after this shot...no doubt to feed its chicks. As a nature lover and photographer... and having a camera in my hand I knew I had to photograph the incident. So for a few seconds I took a short film through the window and then moved forward to take this shot through a gap where the window was slightly open. I then pushed the window open so that it would go and finish the job as quickly as possible somewhere else.
I had planned to put the fledgling Robin film on here today, but at the moment I don't really feel like working on it. No doubt I will eventually put it on with the piece taken today as that's nature, and that's what professional nature film makers have to do. Not that I'll ever be one, but I know I need to toughen up! :(
