The Red Coats are Coming,

A familiar sight in the New England states around about the American War of Independence. The hat is a tricorne of a British soldier from about that timeframe.

This style of cap became very popular in the 18th century but by 1800 saw its demise. The original name for this head ware is a cocked cap and was used by many armies at that time. The Chelsea Pensioners still wear them today. I bought this one in Boston made to measure by a well known millinery company, and is an exact copy of a British redcoat cap worn at that time. Of course a cap like this would not be complete with out a wig which l feel sets it off.
