Above Wrightwood, California and its engineered debris-flow chutes
Aerial photograph of Wrightwood, engineered debris-flow chutes, and the San Andreas fault, San Bernardino County, California. The two debris-flow chutes merge into a single channel right under Highway 2; from there the debris is spread out onto the Mojave Desert in a large alluvial fan--given the darker color of rocks in the debris flows, the alluvial fan is easily noticeable from hundreds of kilometers in space.
