Wild horses

There is a band of about 300 wild horses or mustangs that live in the Tonto National Forest near the Salt River in Arizona. They are thought to be descendants of Spanish Colonial or Iberian horses brought to the Southwest by explorers in the 16th century. Mustangs are often referred to as wild horses, but because they are descended from once-domesticated horses, they are properly defined as feral horses.
