Its Only 365 Days
16/365: THE WORLD IS ON FIRE
16 JAN 14
If I had a time machine in my hands right now, I would travel back to three days ago, and slap that Lean Cuisine Fajita roll right out of my hungry little hands. This is the re-enactment above of what happened. I stupidly took this thing fresh off the heat and shoved it straight into my mouth, and there was that moment, when the flames were coming from my face, where any normal human being would have bounced it around and then spit it out, but I bounced it and it went down my throat burning EVERYTHING on the way down. I now have a legit set of blisters on the roof of my mouth (we're beyond skin peeling) and somewhere at the back of my throat, I feel pain every single time I swallow, so I assume I have burns back there that I can't see with a flashlight. One of my literal motto's in life is "hot things are hot," because I have a really bad habit of touching, eating, or catching hot things. Like the time my iron fell, and instead of letting it fall, I attempted to catch it and now have a permanent scar on my forearm, or the time I flipped a pancake in hot oil towards me instead of away, and the oil splashed back causing my skin on my hand, wrist, and again, another forearm to turn sun burn red and blister and peel before thankfully after nearly 2 weeks, that healed up. Ugh, I don't know, but like a parent to a kid, I often have to remind myself "hot things are hot."
Okay Health Update 2014: I sit here, mouth burned with the only relief being copious amounts of cold water which I have to frequently ingest to relieve the mouth and throat pain, but I also sit here physically exhausted because I have started to put "the work" into workout. You would think someone who hasn't hit a gym or weights in 2 months would be like, let me go walk around the block, but I raise my right hand to this, I love HIIT workouts or High Intensity Interval Training workouts. I love leaving it 'all on the floor' as they say and feeling that sweat pouring down. This is where not having a perm is fantastic b/c I can sweat everything out and then hop in a shower. Monday I did high intensity arm reps using a band, medicine ball, barbell and my 8's and 10 pound weights which made reaching for things the next day...difficult. Then Tuesday was legs--lotta squats, ballet bar work, Wednesday was dance.
Today was brutal. This HIIT had me doing Tucks, Plyometric jacks, push-ups, combination exercises, plies, squats, and a whole lot of cardio. My legs are dying. The jumping was so intense that I began to dream of when the breaks would come, and by breaks, I mean, straight cardio, no weights or plyos, so I could get a second of air. After the stretch, I just couldn't get up. I had to sit for a minute and work up any conceivable energy left in me to stand.
On the diet front, my solo goal this week has been to rid myself of my soda addiction. And it was an addiction. I was up to two cans a day which is pretty bad considering how much sugar/cals one can has. I was bordering on my pre-workout college days where I was drinking like 3 bottles, yes, bottles a day of Coke, but then I gave soda up for Lent which turned into me being soda free for almost 2 years straight. Then I fell off that wagon, hit every rock on the way down, and went back to drinking soda, Dr. Pepper, my weakness. Btw: everyone in TX drinks Dr. Pepper. No one drinks Coke.
Anyway, thanks to mouth burning, drinking a crap ton of water, has been really easy because its the only thing easing that constant pain right now. Next week, my goal is to bring down the meat eatery from 5 days a week, to 3 days a week. I have learned I do not have the constitution for the vegan life, but I think limiting meat, will be good for me. Lucky me, thanks to a terrible case of food poisoning, I have not eaten beef specifically in over 9 years. I have tried to give up pork a couple of times, but so help me, I love bacon. That is the only thing stopping me. I've tried faux bacon, but it tastes like soy dipped in bacon grease...not good.
Official weigh ins for me will be once a week, every Monday. As I've said, I'm taking it easy, trying to really make small and slow life changes that I can stick to over time rather then try to do everything at once, which ends ultimately in failure and rebounding.
