Millions of termite mounds dot Australia's inland landscape, some being gigantic in proportions. This one, beside the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory, standing out against the recently burnt environment. Winter burnoffs are a regular winter event in the north, so as to lessen the impact of fire from lightning storms in the hotter seasons.
