She looked at him through the spread out fingers of her open hand. He covered his face. "It's time." he said. "Yes..." - she whispered - "Yes". They got up. He took her hand and led her up the stairs, all 88 steps, to the top of the building. They stopped at the edge of the roof. It was windy. He put his arms around her and kissed her good-bye. The last good-bye. The final good-bye. The kiss was empty. It tasted of nothing. He gave her a gentle push and it was for the first time in a very long time that she felt truly free, falling through the cristal clear air of a summer night.
