Fumarole - Solfatara vent, Nisyros Volcano, Greece
A solfatara vent on the floor of Stefanos crater, Nisyros volcano, emitting chiefly steam, carbon dioxide and sulfurous fumes (hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide), with sulfur is deposited as yellow crystals. The Sulfur is probably formed from a redox reaction involving hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide, both produced from magmatic activity, and in the presence of moisture. Water is the other product (most of it as steam).
