Bitting Building; Wichita, KS

This building replaced the very elegant 5-story Bitting Brothers Department Store which was erected by W.H. Sternberg (1832 - 1906) and gutted by fire in the early 1900s. Location is northwest corner of Douglas Avenue and Market St. in Wichita, KS. This building later had seven stories added on top of it and today the Bitting Building stands here. Sign out front reads, "Rothenberg Ice Cream". To the far right of the photo is the Colonial Theater, well known as being the fanciest theater in the State of Kansas. I'm sure the ice cream parlor was a lovely place to stop after a movie. Note the trolley car tracks and the overhead electric lines which powered them.

Any thoughts, comments, ideas or additional information is welcome and appreciated!
