MPs can accelerate establishing digital Bangladesh timely: Dr

Tawfiq

 

NAOGAON, Jan 23 (BSS)-Advisor to the Prime Minister on Power,

Fuel and Mineral Resources Affairs Dr. Tawfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury

Bir Bikram has said Members of the Parliament (MPs) can

accelerate developments to make a digital Bangladesh timely.

 

The adviser made the remark after being informed that a

massive development work has been accomplished during the first

year of the present government in Mohadebpur upazila of Naogaon

district as per the election pledges of Awami League.

 

Dr. Akram Hossain Chowdhury, MP, from Badalgachi-Mohadebpur

constituency, also member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee

of Food and Disaster Management Ministry informed his

performances in 2009 at a Face-to- Face programme on Thursday.

 

Dr. Akram said that the massive development works so far

completed in Mohadebpur upazila last year have fulfilled most of

the long-cherished demands of the local people and founded

stronger footing for building a developed digital Bangladesh.

 

Mohadebpur Nagorik Committee (MNC) and Centre for E-

Parliament Research (CEPR) organised it at Mohadebpur upazila

auditorium- cum-community centre on the occasion of one year

completion of the present government.

 

Convener of MNC Golam Nurani Alal chaired the Face-to-Face

accountability occasion and Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr.

Taufiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury Bir Bikram attended as the chief guest

where more than 2,000 citizens were present in the jam-packed

centre.

 

Secretary of Naogaon unit of Awami League (AL) Abdul Malek,

Additional Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi Swapan Kumar Saha,

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Naogaon M Shahjahan Ali, Executive

Director of CEPR Tamzid-Ur-Rahman, addressed.

 

Police Super Mofazzel Hossain, chief executive of Zila

Parishad Shah Alam Mridha, district and upazila level officials,

leaders of different political parties, socio-cultural and women

community leaders, distinguished citizens, elite and

professionals, attended.

 

Dr. Akram said development work of 500 km roads have been

completed in 2009 allover Mohadebpur upazila at a cost of huge

amount of money bringing a revolution in the rural communication

sector there.

 

He told the people that the Local Government and Engineering

Department (LGED) completed construction of 198.89 km roads under

19 projects under the Upazila Road Construction Programme during

the period in the upazila.

 

The works included construction of 134.89 km pucca roads,

63.75 km katcha roads, 0.25 km haring bond and 230 bridges and

culverts.

 

Under the Union Road Development Programme, a total of 138.89

km roads were constructed under 22 projects including 92.22 km

katcha roads, 44.05 km pucca roads, 2.62 km haring bonds and 168

bridges and culverts in the upazila.

 

Under the Rural Road-A Programme, a total of 208.23 km roads

were constructed under 100 projects including 177.46 km katcha

roads, 29.88 km pucca roads, 0.90 km haring bonds and 121 bridges

and culverts in the upazila, Dr. Akram said.

 

Under the Rural Road-B Programme, a total of 106.18 km roads

have been completed under 76 projects that included 99.13 km

katcha roads, 7.34 km pucca roads, 0.71 km haring bonds and 30

bridges and culverts last year in the upazila.

 

Besides, construction of Mohadebpur upazila auditorium- cum-

community centre at a cost of Taka 78.90 lakh, its boundary walls

at Taka 12 lakh and other development work at Taka 6.95 lakh have

been completed there last year, Dr. Akram said.

 

Under the special programmes of the Upazila Project

Implementation Department, huge infrastructural development work

was completed during the period creating adequate employment to

successfully alleviate poverty and overcome lean season, he said.

 

The work included construction, reconstruction, maintenance

and development work of the rural roads, water bodies, ponds,

canals and earth-filling at different institutions at a cost of

877.095 tonnes rice worth Taka 2.58 crore under 106 projects.

 

Besides, development of the public welfare institutions and

small-scale projects at a cost of 759.933 tonnes rice worth Taka

2.23 crore under 612 projects was also completed last year in

Mohadebpur upazila, Dr. Akram MP said.

 

In addition, 22 barrack houses were built with a view to

rehabilitating 220 landless and homeless families and 100 of the

families have so far been rehabilitated there and Taka 1.20 lakh

assistance have been provided among them, the MP said.

 

Dr. Akram, widely known as an honest person, informed that

number of beneficiaries under the ongoing allowances for the

freedom fighters, widows and handicapped people, VGD, VGF and

supply of electricity has largely been increased in the upazila

last year.

 

Later, Dr. Akram Hossain MP answered dozens of questions

asked by the attending citizens and urged all to cooperate for

further development in all sectors of the upazila.

 

The advisor expressed his overwhelming satisfactions over the

successes of Dr. Akram Hossain MP and said that the Prime

Minister's Digital Bangladesh Programme would definitely be built

timely if all MPs worked like Dr. Akram throughout the country.
