Reflection can be observed as a car’s light rays bounce off the surface of a road and brighten the surrounding area. When a road is dry, the reflection given off by the rays is known as diffused reflection due to the rough surface that makes the rays bounce off the road in different directions making it easy to see the surrounding area. Specular reflection, as seen in this photograph, is when light bounces off a smooth surface. When a road becomes wet, water fills the rough surface of the pavement, causing the majority of the car’s light to reflect straight ahead.
