In my travels with David, I have been to Mayodan before. But, when out and about with David, for some reason, we hardly ever came into contact with the people who lived in the areas we visited. Dona and I are always coming into contact with them.
Our choices of where to eat in Mayodan (smaller than even Madison) were Burger King and Bojangles. We opted for Bojangles. As soon as we parked, we noticed something peculiar. Dona pointed out that there was an old lady staring it us. I turned to look at the car on my side of the SUV. Sure enough, there was an old lady in a powder blue, double knit pantsuit giving us what Dona called the "stink eye". Then her son came out. I could hear the banjos beginning to play.
When we went inside Bojangles there was an almost collective turning of heads in our direction. We ordered our food, Dona complained at the prices, and we sat down.
We started eating and Dona asked, What is that man staring at? Is my hair messed up? Sure enough, across a couple of tables from us was a group of people. At one end of the gathered tables was this older man with a negative look on his face. And, Dona was right. He was staring at us.
Sitting on our table was my camera with the 300mm lens on it. The man could plainly see I was not using the camera. But, I sure wanted to document the strange acting people that were there at Bojangles that day.
As the man and his group were leaving, I noticed a lady at another table was using her phone as a camera. I remembered I had my iPod in my pocket. I regret I did not pull it out to take a discreet shot of that man staring at us.
Before we left, of course, Dona and I had to hit the john. When it was my turn, I told Dona, if I'm not out within five minutes, call 911. The banjo people have got me,
