Oakdale Store

This afternoon, after errands, Dona and I scouted out the old Oakdale Cotton Mills. I had found this site through a photo posted on Flickr. Dona and I looked the place up on Google Maps. Let me just say, Google maps are not even close to being reliable. We stopped at a local business, I got out and asked for directions. Turns out we have driven by this place before but never looked over at it. It is truly amazing. Like a trip back in time.

Although we only had time to take a few pictures, we were shocked by what we saw. This is a rundown mill village that has had absolutely no modern updates except for one or two dishes we saw bolted to houses that looked for all the world like they were about to cave in. Most of the houses are literally falling down. Needless to say, we will be returning to get more photos in the future.

The above picture is of what must have been the company store. Judging from the sign on the building, it at one time housed another business. What is left is this wonderful relic of a time many decades in the past.
