London Underground Group - August Bank Holiday leaflet, 1928

During the 1920s the London Underground Electric Railways Group of companies, that included the Tube, various if the tram companies and the London General Omnibus Company and that was known as the 'Combine', were well known for the quality of their publicity - a policy inspired and driven by Frank Pick. This is one of a series of regular leaflets for holiday services, advertising the places to go by tube, tram and bus. Each issue used artwork by a different designer, often the work of a artist associated with the famous and numerous posters issued by the company and its successor after 1933, London Transport.

This August 1928 issue, with Johnston typeface, and a 'harvest garland' has no designer shown but it looks very "Shep" like to me! 'Shep' was Charles Shepard, a noted designer who was also head of studio at the Baynard Press in London.
