Sartoleum : floor covering & oilcloth catalogue : Floorcoverings Limited : Manchester : nd [ca.1925]

A colourful and cheerful cover to a mid-1920s catalogue of linoleum, floor rugs and oilcloths sold under the "Sartoleum" brand; the happy kitten frolics after a ball over the splendid 'rug' watched by the cheerful family. The catalogue and price list was issued from Sartor House in Derby Street, Cheetham, Manchester, by Floorcoverings Limited. It contains illustrations of patterns in cork lino, oilclothes, fabric rugs and tablecloths along with leaflets announcing price reductions and the information that Sartoleum was only available direct by order from the company in Manchester or a showroom at 20 Tottenham Court Road in London. Although undated the pre-printed order form includes the date as "192..." and the style suggests early to mid-20s. The cover lettering for the address is quite splendid and has a slightly more pre-WW1 feel to it.

 

Sartor House, in the then 'fashion' area of Manchester was also, in later years, the base of Sartor Fashions, a brand of clothing and coats.
