City of Birmingham : Coronation Celebrations : Official Programme : Coronation Celebrations Committee : City of Birmingham Information Department : 1953

A very "Festival of Britain" feel to the cover of Birmingham's official programme for the city's 1953 Coronation Celebrations held in honour of the Coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II that year. There's a very full programme of events listed from the end of May through to early June including public concerts, a Festival of Music, processions, fireworks and illuminations around the city. In addition any baby born in the city on the day would have the sum of £2 2s deposited in an account in the child's name at the Municipal Bank, 200,000 schoolchildren got a souvenir and 60,000 tea caddies, with half-a-pound of tea and a caddy spoon, were distributed to the city's "old people".

Sadly no designer is credits for this jolly cover with it's central motif and the decorative lettering. It was produced by the Council's own Information Department that was active in publishing publicity about all aspects of the city's services and amenities.
