The District Bank, Spring Gardens, Manchester - advert from the Manchester Guardian, 1938

The old District Bank - based in Manchester and a symbol, amongst others, of the immense financial power that resided in the city in its industrial heyday - sadly the District was swallowed by the National Provincial in 1962 and then by the Westminster Bank in 1970 to become part of NatWest. The rather fine drawing of the bank's Spring Garden's HQ is by Hanslip Fletcher, a noted architectural illustrator of the day.
