seen in a small booklet/folder called "Travel Notes" issued by the Southern Railway to assist travellers to the Continent. The folder includes a pocket for travel documents as well as many pages of adverts.
The folder must have been issued just after the 1923 Grouping as although the main text refers to the Southern Railway, elsewhere it appears as the either still the South Eastern & Chatham Railway or the Southern Railway (S. E. & C. Section) as well as including adverts that still mention the Caledonian Railway that would have been, by the time of printing, part of the London Midland & Scottish Railway.
This glorious advert was issued by the Canadian National Railways and shows the company owned Highland Inn at Algonquin Park in Ontario as well as giving information for those who would wish to visit Canada for their holidays. The CNR had just that year acquired the hotel when they had purchased the Grand Trunk Railway who had opened the hotel in 1908. The hotel had mixed fortunes, apparently closed by the Railway in 1932 although it seems to have reopened in private hands at some point. In 1956 it was purchased and demolished by the Ontario Government to return the site to its natural condition.
