To celebrate the centenary of the borough's incorporation in 1861 the Corporation published a souvenir handbook cgarting the history of the town, its services and amenities as well as its industries. As usual there is an interesting mix of facts, illustrations and advertisements for local companies and services. It also lists the various events and manifestations taking place throughout the year. The handbook, unusually, was published and printed locally and not by one of the major companies who specialised in such 'borough' publications.
The cover features some stylish design and the borough's coat of arms.
