The Official Guide and Time Tables of the Portuguese Railways - Guia Oficial dos Caminhos de Ferro de Portugal - this being issue 981, dating from September 1956. As well as train timetables there are tramway and bus connections shown and the guide includes a map of the Railways of Portugal.
Like many railway systems a comparison of the map and timetables shows quite a contraction in services. The railways were nationalised in 1975. There are only a few 'international' timetables these being the links to various destinations across the border into neighbouring Spain. This section of table 50 shows the times for trains north from Lisboa to Paris via Valladolid and Hendaya/Hendaye. Even on the Sud-Express this was a 30 hour journey.
