Metropolitan Police Driving School : Roadcraft - a manual of driving instruction for students of the motor car wings : Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis : HMSO : London : 1955 Plates 2 and 3 : mandatory signs
The Metropolitan Police's book of instruction for its own driving school students was published in this public form by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in 1955. It is an updated version of an earlier publication "Attention all Drivers - the Hendon Technique of Driving" as well as allowing for the revision of the Highway Code that was issued in 1955.
It gives detailed instructions on the control and handling of motor vehicles and contains many plates and illustrations including four colour plates showing the then current design of UK road traffic signs. Plates 2 and 3 show signs that "must be observed", in other words, mandatory signs.
