Two years after the creating of the PTE for South Yorkshire that comprised the direct bus operations of three previously municipal fleets - Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster - is this edition of the combined bus and rail timetable for the northern section of the Metropolitan County. One of the advantages of the PTE's was the ability to be able to move towards integration of public transport in terms of both information and fares structures. This timetable booklet therefore includes services run by the PTE in Doncaster as well as the major National Bus Company operators in this area - Yorkshire Traction, West Riding, East Midlands Motor Services and Linconshire RCC - British Rail and many independent bus operators. The latter held on longer in this part of Yorkshire than many other areas and included such names as Felix Motors, Leon Motor Services and Rossie Motors.
