East Coast : a guide to services 24 September 1995 to 1 June 1996 : British Rail timetable booklet : map

Almost the last gasp of the then still nationalised British Rail on the East Coast Main Line as privatisation beckoned. Indeed, although published by "InterCity East Coast Ltd" the timetable is still copyrighted to "British Railways Board" and the rails the trains ran on were already in Railtrack hands.

This neat 1995 booklet shows the shortlived "East Coast" sunburst logo that rather echoed the old LNER 'eye' symbol and that I always found a coherent brand and visual identity. I have lost track of how many subsequent 'brands' and 'owners' the ECML and its services have had now. The map/diagram was designed by Bernard Slatter and is rather clever using the lines themselves to 'suggest' the outline of Great Britain.
