Unveiling of the memorial to the dead of the Bank Underground station bombing of 11 January 1941 by the Lord Mayor of London, 11 January 2017

On 10 January 2017 we asked the Lord Mayor of London to honour the memory of the fifty six people who died during the air raid blitz at Bank tube station on that day in 1941. The bomb caused devastating damage, collapsing the sub-surface ticket hall roof and with the bomb impact continuing down the escalator shaft to Central line platform level. The hand carved Welsh slate plaque is to the new design for our memorials and is in our Johnston typeface. This photo shows the Lord Mayor, representatives of the City and Corporation of London, the emergency services and LU staff. That's me in the light coat.
