GPO London Area Telephone Directory - March 1928 - page 731 LON

The London Area GPO Telephone Directory (Volume 1 in the national set) issued in the bound blue cloth version (you paid one shilling extra for that) in March 1928. Needless to say the directory is a treasure trove of information for people, institutions and companies.

Needless to say there's a few "LON" pages for London - this one has the old London General Omnibus Company entries, based at 55 Broadway the HQ it shared with its 'owners' since 1912, the Underground Electric Railways. The list shows the 'General's' garages at the time, a fascinating list from Athol St to Willesden - many now gone but a few still in use after all these years. The LGOC's Sport Association's sports grounds are shown at Kenton and Walthamstow. The 'old' LT (as the LGOC would become in 1933) had numerous sports clubs and grounds that were gradually in the 1970s and '80s closed and sold off.

Mind you - it must be a bit sad when I sit on a winter's evening reading a telephone directory!
