Pysanka Designs Pottery has been painted with decorative designs derived from Ukrainian folk-art rich in symbology. Pysanka comes from the Ukrainian word “Pysaty” (pes-sah-teh) meaning “to write”. These symbols have been linked to writings dating back to 3000 B.C. and held special meanings for the people of ancient times who celebrated Mother Earth. In approximately 988A.D. when Christianity was accepted, the meanings evolved to fit the needs of Christians.
These writings bestow wishes of love, life, happiness, protection and success.
The Artist of Pysanka Pottery is of Ukrainian Heritage and learned this symbolic art from her Grandmother.
