Over the Side
It was a long hike over the mountain from Dos Cabezas, but it was worth the view on the other side.
Here - Looking into the gorge from near the tracks, two wrecked box cars cling to the steep canyon wall.
The cars derailed in an accident in the 80’s where the train came around one of the many sharp corners at too high a rate of speed and some of it left the tracks.
The two cars in the image were carrying bagged cement that was salvaged by workers who unloaded the cars and carried the cargo up to the ROW (about 50 yards up the hill) where it was loaded onto another car and taken away.
The trucks off the box cars were also salvaged an all that remains is the busted up car bodies, some twisted rail and the debris of a number of shredded ties.
