tokens of a time past...
Found in a bottom of a jar: Several subway tokens from Boston's public transportation system, MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority).
After 90 years, the MBTA moved from using metal tokens as payment to cards that could be swiped when entering subway stations or buses.It sold its last brass token on December 6, 2006. The tokens could be redeemed for $1.25 added on to the fare cards until July 20, 2012. Some 3.4 million tokens have since been melted down...
Apparently, I could now sell my old tokens if I wanted to. :-) Found a site where the "regular" tokens sell for about $2 each, but the "special" "Sail Boston, 1992" token could sell for $10.
