Easily grown from seed. This is the only self-propagating species of Costus, so that large numbers of seedlings are produced.
In Equateur province various parts of the plant are used medicinally to treat haemorrhaging, wounds, eye problems, epilepsy, dermatitis, sciatica and pleurisy (Konda et al. 2015a).
