Kirow Type KRC1200UK Heavy Duty Diesel Crane. DRK 81612.
This Kirow rail mounted crane is one of three 125 tonne heavy duty diesel hydraulic cranes built by Kirow of Leipzig, Germany that are used in the UK. They are type KRC1200UK cranes and were built between 2004-05. The 125t capacity is for a static lift but they are also able to carry a 36t payload when mobile. This one DRK 81612 was new to Carillion Rail Plant in 2005 then in January 2008 Carillion sold its rail plant division to Colas Rail. The crane was then repainted from white and black livery into Colas Rails black, yellow and orange colours. It is seen here at Carlisle Kingmoor Yard in the consist of 6K05 destined for Crewe. For the record the crane and support vehicles are (nearest) CN 97418 KFA + DRK 81612 + CN 97416 KFA + CN 97417 KFA (furthest). The nearest vehicle, CN 97418 carries the crane beam and is 66.7t GLW / 26t tare. The crane itself is 109t GLW and the support wagon the otherside carries the counter balance weights. CN 97416 is rated the same as CN 97418 (66.7t GLW / 26t tare). Finally the furthest CN 97417 carries the mess van and tool van. This vehicle is rated at 40t GLW / 14t tare.
