With the mist and fog rapidly descending Army Rail diesel 0-6-0DH no.422 (RH 459517/1961) stands in the Ordnance Gate Platform at MOD Bramley, Hampshire. This location was at the northern end of the Bramley West depot site. In the back ground stand the two DEMU's forming the NSE/Salisbury AMO "Bramley Bunker" railtour organised by Salisbury Area Manager Gerald Daniels. This series of three charters operating on an out and back basis on the same date covered a large part of the soon to close Bramley Central Ammunition Depot in 1987. The facility was built during World War I as Britain's war effort was being hampered by a lack of shells and ammunition. Work started in 1916 and the site with 33 miles of running lines and sidings was opened fully in 1918. Before its closure the site was operated by a fleet of three Ruston diesels manned by the Bramley Detachment of the No.1 Railway Group, Royal Corps of Transport.
