The engineering blockade of the West Coast Mainline at Carstairs blocking all three routes is set to finish on Sunday 19th March when a partial reopening will see the Carlisle to Edinburgh line available ahead of a second reopening of the Glasgow side on the 24th April. Over the preceding two weeks a number of freights have been diverted via the G&SW route and Ayrshire coast mainline to reach Mossend. Most have been under cover of darkness or subject to dreadful weather which has thwarted any decent daytime photography. In an all to brief bright spot between low cloud and rain 66 106 is seen at Niviston near Portland Bridge in Upper Nithsdale. The loco is working the retimed and diverted 4S38 13.16 Seaforth Docks to Mossend Down Yard container train operated by DB Cargo on behalf of Peel Ports Ltd.
