Latvian Academy of Sciences building
The Latvian Academy of Sciences building in Riga was completed in 1961 as the republic’s first skyscraper, rising about 108 metres. Designed in Socialist Classicism and nicknamed “Stalin’s birthday cake,” it was conceived as a House of Collective Farmers. An open observation deck at roughly 65 metres offers a 360-degree view over the city.
