Common Aerial Yellowjacket
Common aerial yellowjacket, Dolichovespula arenaria.
The thin vertical yellow line behind the head and the dark gap between eye and mandible distinguish from genus Vespula. Within Dolichovespula, D. arenaria is unique in having the yellow bands on terga 1 & 2 deeply incised, usually to interruption.
