Strobist-L102-SHC

Took a bit of figuring (and not for the obvious reasons) but here is how it went...

* Printed my logo in reverse on an A4 sheet of white paper

* Attached the sheet as a light diffuser (as learnt in the last assignment)

* Put a torch in the diffuser to get the focus sharp on the highlight

* Figured out power for SB-800 to get the highlight logo as sharp as possible (1/32)

* Set the flash to be a rear-sync so it didn’t upset the lamp light

* Found the best shutter speed for lamp light (1/10 – Was using F/8 as I like it on this lens, and it gave me enough DOF for what I wanted)

* Turned out all lights (shot at night)

!!! SB-800 didn’t fire (using Nikon CLS)... Thought that’s strange as it was working two seconds ago... Turned lights back on, still didn’t work... Swapped to another SB-800, same problem... starting to get really annoyed... Grabbed another SB-800 and did a test flashed when taking it out of the bag (other side of the room), and it worked fine... Head scratching... More head scratching... Had an idea... turned off lamp... fired off a frame and bingo, flash fired... Turned lamp on, flash didn’t fire !!!

* Idea: Multiple exposure, one with the lamp on and no flash and the other with lamp off and a flash (Yes I could have done this in Photoshop with two shots but I just don’t think that’s cricket!)

* Bingo!
