Pack Creek Bear
This was a sow that spotted a boar (male bear) while she was fishing with her cub. Boars tend to kill the cubs in order to get the sow back into heat, so the Mothers are very protective of their cubs. This sow watched the boar as he approached, stood up and gave the signal to back down. She then gave chase ( I will post photos at a later date) until the Boar backed off. Although it is difficult to see in this photo, this bear weighed about 900 lbs, and will grow up to 1400 lbs at end of Season.
Little note on Alaskan Brown bears: The inland brown bear is called a grizzly, and they are smaller than the coastal brown bears that eat a rich diet of fish.
