Sagrada Familia.
La Sagrada Familia is one of Gaudi's most famous works in Barcelona. It is a giant basilica that has been under construction since 1882. In 1887 the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar designed a neo-Gothic church and began the construction in 1882.
One year later Antoni Gaudi, aged 31, took over and devoted most of his life to that construction. He changed the design to his trademark Modernist style which was based on forms found in nature.
When he died in 1926 only one facade, one tower, the apse and the crypt were finished. Because Gaudi was constantly improvising and changing the design he left few plans and models. Most of what was left was destroyed in 1936 during the civil War.
It is hoped building will be completed in 2030.
