Big Bend - Texas
This is Saint Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park in SW Texas. It is where the Rio Grande makes a huge 'S' curve as it tavels south as the border between Texas and Mexico. As it passes through these mountains it has carved a passage with 1,100 -1,200 foot high steep walls known as St. Elena Canyon. You can walk into the Canyon for about a Km. until the river stretches to both walls and you can go no further - what an awsome and eerie sight and feeling.
Mexico is the cliffs to the left, Texas on the right. You can drive up and park to within about 1/2 Km. behind where this was taken.
If you look closely (enlarge) you will see some people in the lower right corner, on the trail, to give you idea of perspective. This was my 2nd visit here and it amazes me.
