Blue Lakes Trail
While the aspens were stunning ... and I have hundreds of photos of them to wade thru ... this day was the highlight of our 7-day trip to Southwestern Colorado.
We headed up in the early morning on a warm sunny day. A relatively ez day hike though a bit steep from the onset: around 8-mi RT with about 2400' of gain, topping out at the upper lake at 11,809'. We had hoped to climb another 1200' to the pass for an in your face view of Mt Sneffels (a 14er), but pooped out. Still, we were content with where we stopped since it gave us a lot of quality time to spend in the upper lake basin ... with the clouds building up in the afternoon, and the shadows dancing. It got chilly and breezy, but it was totally awesome and we were at home with it. This is a shot of Robert on our way back out ... passing by the middle lake.
