It's A Bird, It's A Kite ... It's A Lockheed C-130E CC-130E Hercules

When this behemoth is flying in a hot military zone, it must have lots of heavily armed escorts nearby, because it is s-l-o-w! However, not that slow. This thing made a number of passes over Corner Brook last week as I was about ready to leave for the capital. The first pass I heard but barely saw, as I was loading gear aboard the vehicle ... the second surprised me ... wasn't expecting to see it again. Then I waited (camera gear still in the vehicle all packed up) in case he showed once more. He did, and there was a mad scramble to get the camera out of the case, lens out of another case, lens on, lens cap off, lens hood on, and get ready to shoot. Then you realize ... he's not really THAT slow. :-)

See the guy in the orange jump suit in the open doorway? (Check it out in the original version if you're a contact). I wonder what he's doing? There's a circular object in the lower right corner of the doorway, too. Wonder what that is? Maybe someone from the flight crew might see this and put a comment on here to explain. Gotta love this Sigma lens though when you see stuff like this!

WAIT A MINUTE! Maybe Harper got them out to drop Conservative propaganda leaflets over Humber West. :-) This is, after all, the old riding of the former provincial premier, Danny Williams, Harper's arch-nemisis. Shoot, maybe the circular object is some form of mind control. LOL!

For any of my contacts who aren't Canadian, you may or may not know we are about to have a Federal election. In the last one, Williams, who had issues with Harper, ran his ABC campaign ...Anything But Conservative. I should tell you that Williams himself was also a Conservative, albeit provincially. Strange stuff you say? Conservative against Conservative? Well, you'd have to know Newfoundland politics. Then you'd soon realize that that's hardly strange at all. :-) Interestingly, Harper's Conservatives didn't get a single one of the seven seats up for grabs in that election ... a token to the sway Williams had over the electorate of this province. Williams has retired now, so I suppose things could be different this time.

Personally, despite being Conservative from the time I could vote, I definitely hope Harper does not get a majority government. I seriously think it will bad news for Canadians if he does. Actually, I wouldn't mind if he lost so bad that he'd have to leave politics altogether. Here's just a few of the reasons why:

1.The opposition parties defeated Harper's government because he was found in contempt of Parliament.

2.In the campaigning so far in this election, people have been kicked out or denied entry to Conservative rallies. Why, you ask? Well, apparently, Harper's staff had checked them out on the social media sites, ie Facebook, and didn't like what they saw. Shades of Orwell's '1984' ...Big Brother's watching. Thus my joke up above about the circular object being a 'mind control device'. :-) And, just another reason ...for me anyway ... to avoid Facebook like the plague.

3. In describing the Atlantic provinces in 2001 ... and Newfoundland is one of those... Harper used the derogatory term "Culture of defeat".

4. Canada's reputation in the eyes of the world has changed since Harper has been Prime Minister ... and not for the better. We used to be looked upon as peacekeepers in the world. Not anymore ...

5. Harper has a very weak stand on the environment .

6. Harper's government plans to purchase 65 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets at an estimated cost of at least $16 billion, while failing to invest in needed social programs or the aforementioned environmental issues.

7. etc., etc., etc ...

Bet if Harper's cronies are monitoring Flickr, I'd have a hard job getting into one of his rallies wouldn't you say? :-) Just kidding about the mind control, Steve. Really! Please don't cut off my CP and OAS. Please ... LOL!!!
