It's a Mini Devil's Postpile - Columns of the Giants
A site where an outrop exposed by glacial activity (just like at Devil's Postpile) is made of three lava flows. The middle one cooled evenly and cracked into perfect columns from top to bottom (also just like at Devil's Postpile). Under the talus pile at the base of the cliff is ancient ice belonging to one of the glaciers, making the talus pile full of cool air you can feel when you climb on it. The site rests a half mile from the parking lot, on the other side of the Middle fork of the Stanislaus River. Let's go see it!
