This is a photo of the demolition of the Sumner Field public housing in north Minneapolis in 1998. This 73-acre site in the heart of the African-American community on the near north side of Minneapolis held more than 1000 units of low-cost public housing. Some felt that the demolition of this housing was justified because of the concentration of poverty in that part of the city. Others opposed the demolition because of the overall shortage of affordable housing in the region.
