‘E’ DAY IN SIGHT FOR CHORLEY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME
Works to the last of almost 3,000 homes to be improved by Chorley Community Housing (CCH) as part of a £29m investment programme get underway this week. 14th March marks the end of the programme, or ‘E’ Day, as contractors begin replacing the kitchens and bathrooms in the last batch of homes to undergo works.
The programme, delivered by social housing refurbishment contractor Bullock Construction Limited, has seen thousands of Chorley homes get a new lease of life with updated kitchens and bathrooms. Over one hundred flats and bungalows have also had special level access showers fitted to enable older and more vulnerable residents to continue to stay in their homes.
CCH Regional Manager Mike Murphy (pictured) said: “The improvement programme began in June 2008 and it has been a magnificent achievement to get so close to finishing the works in such a short space of time. We have worked really hard to ensure both that residents’ needs have been taken account of and that we have been able to deliver the investment. The end of the programme, or ‘E’ Day, has arrived really quickly.”
The improvements, which have been carried out by CCH following the transfer of the homes from Chorley Council in March 2007, were part of a range of promises made by the Council to its tenants following an extensive consultation period in 2006. The improvements have been overseen by Adactus Housing Group’s Development Department, with cost consultancy by Arcus Consulting.
Director of Operations Richard Houghton said: “Not only has the programme been delivered ahead of time, we’ve also managed it whilst consistently achieving satisfaction ratings of 95%. The investment of £29m possibly marks the single biggest investment in Chorley in the town’s history.”
